“Hi, my name is Chris. I was born and brought up in Dunstable and growing up spent many a Saturday watching DTFC as my uncle was the groundsman.
“I am proud to accept the role of Mental Health Ambassador for the Club.
”I have personal experience of mental health difficulties as I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar Affective Disorder many years ago.
“I've been lucky enough over the past 12 months to witness the amazing work the Club does in the community supporting people with lived experience of mental health difficulties.
“Last year was a pretty brutal time for me both mentally and physically but after learning about Let's Talk, a support group run jointly by the Club & the East London NHS Foundation Recovery College I started my road to recovery & for the first time in my life I've been able to open up and talk about my own lived experiences. I can honestly say it's the best move I've ever made.
“I still attend the weekly sessions held in the CBS Hub at Creasey Park every Thursday between 1pm and 2.30pm.
I'm more than grateful to the Club Chair, Andrew Madaras, & Trish Reid from the Recovery College for their ongoing support not just for myself but for anybody in the community with lived experience of mental health problems and who is in recovery & needs help.
“Hopefully I can assist Andrew and the rest of the mental health support team, Yvonne, Rupert, Bob, Lee, Peter & Molly carry on the great work they're doing & give something back to those who have helped me in my recovery.
I'm always at home matches so please feel to talk to me if you need help in any way or just fancy a chat.”
