Dunstable Town celebrate scoring vs Shefford Town & Campton.

It was a game of two halves at Shefford Sports Club on Saturday as Dunstable Town picked up a point in their third away game in a row.

Town were the superior team in the first half and will have been disappointed not to have turned their dominance into more goals.

Confidence was high after two straight wins as the visitors started on the front foot, scoring the opening goal in the 8th minute when Luka Lodder made a run done the right then cut the ball back from the byline to Alex Butt who scored his first goal of the season.

Lodder almost doubled the lead eight minutes later but his effort from a narrow angle just missed the target.

Despite having a lot of the ball Dunstable were finding it hard to create more clearcut opportunities as were they opponents.

Sam Ezenwaka tried his luck twelve minutes before half time but it cleared the bar. A minute later Shefford had their first effort on target when Charlie Clark shot straight at Alex Desmond.

Stoppage time saw Shefford finish strongly with Clark having a header easily gathered by Desmond.

The hosts came out for the second half where they left off in the first period as Dunstable looked a little disjointed.

Clark found the net three minutes in with a close range finish then Toby Starling increased their lead in the 52nd minute, capitalising on Town’s slow start to the half.

Shefford were much improved and almost scored a third four minutes after taking the lead. A fine shot from range was heading for the top corner but Desmond did superbly well to tip the ball round the post and bar.

Dunstable sparked into life again and gained more control of the game, working hard to draw level.

Into the last quarter of the match Lodder broke away on the counter and finished well off the inside of the post to make it 2-2.

The visitors were hungry for a winner and it nearly came when Lodder hit the bar and a follow up header being cleared off the line.

The game finished in a draw, which was probably a fair reflection of a game where Shefford’s second half display was a carbon copy of Town’s first half.

Team: Desmond; Kenna: Williams; Smith; Onu; Ovington; Ezenwaka; Butt; Davis; Goulding; Lodder.

Subs: James; Greene; Briggs; Bishop & Mead.
