Dunstable Town FC kicked off the third friendly of their pre-season campaign on an evening that belonged in late December as opposed to mid July. Despite the less than ideal weather Dunstable got down to business taking on Step 4 side, Kings Langley.
The first 30 minutes are best described as a physical battle more than anything, tensions began to rise with certain refereeing decisions combined with Kings Langley being particularly wasteful.
Kings Langley began to create more and more, culminating in a goal in the 38th minute from Langley’s Number 11, Dunstable defended well and thanks to some Hollywood saves from our keeper, the deficit remained 1 as the whistle blew for half time.
The second half kicked off, with both teams making plenty of changes, as is the norm during preseason, and in the 51st minute, Joe Hankins drilled one through the keeper's legs to bring Dunstable level, adding another goal to his preseason tally. Langley retook the lead a mere 2 minutes later, making it 2-1.
The next 20 minutes looked fairly even with both sides creating quality chances forcing both keepers into some remarkable saves. Langley netted a third in the 74th minute from close range, Dunstable kept the intensity but struggled to get back into it.
Langley were awarded a free kick in the 87th minute which was put away. Dunstable pulled one back from kick-off following a great run down the left hand side from Luka Lodder who put a ball into the middle for 14 who’s shot rebounded for Mason Davis to slot home.
Unfortunately, this proved to be a consolation goal. Overall, it was a spirited performance from Dunstable against a step 4 opponent just lacking that final touch.
