Match Report: Dunstable Town Vet's 3-0 AFC Awareness Vet's Orange

On a surprisingly warm October evening, the town took on an AFC Awareness Vets Orange at Lealands High School. Manager Chris Golding was overjoyed at being able to welcome young gun Lee Loasby into the fold and he started the game on the bench alongside Golding.

Dunstable started well and where fast out of the blocks with Dunstable settling quickly moving the ball around well with purpose and skill… some quick interchange down the left hand side between Keeble and Rob K opened the door for danger man Robson to throw in some stepovers before dispatching a clinical finish down low to the keeper’s right hand side from the edge of the box 1-0 Dunstable! Town where looking comfortable… maybe a little too comfortable and credit to Awarness who rallied well and enjoyed a fairly extended period of possession accumulating in 2 or 3 good chances that were kept out expertly well from deputising Goalkeeper Matt Hudson with one spectacular safe that was heading into the Dunstable top corner!

The first half was coming towards an end when for the last 5 minutes after Rob K had returned after a deserved sin bin following a rather professional foul. With Dunstable now back on an even keel firstly Giddy was played in superbly by Robson and he placed his left footed finish inches past the post. As the ref went to blow his whistle for half time Robson was played clear through from a Green through ball… with the onlookers already clapping Dunstable’s second goal of the evening Robson was thwarted but an excellent save from the Awareness keeper! Halftime.

With Golding and Loasby being introduced into the fray, Dunstable started brightly and went straight on the offensive with Golding going close with a long-range shot that the Awareness keeper did well to get down low and tip away for a corner. With the light fading quickly the game hit a slight lull as both teams struggled to even see the ball and the Ref was seemingly unsure of what to do about it. The game burst into life when Keeble was sin-binned (again) for stretching to control the ball with no players near him but the decision was given as a slide and he was sent for a rest. Dunstable sat in with Pegrum and Loasby puffing on cigars at the back allowing those in front to regroup and get some shape and order into proceedings… with Keeble returning Town kick started and a short corner between Robson and Golding was toe-pocked across the box falling at the feet of Kurzawa who spun expertly dispatching the ball past the goalkeeper giving him no chance 2-0!

Dunstable where now cooking and a flowing move played Keeble in coming into the ball down the left hand side and his fierce drive struck the post with the keeper ducking to protect himself from the power of the strike. The game was coming to an end with 5 minutes to go a goal of the season contender appeared following a long hopeful ball forward from the Awareness CB that was won by Loasby well and the ball fell at the feet of the ever young Keeble who travelled with the ball at pace before finding the excellent run of Robson dragging the Awareness defenders across the box before playing an inch perfect pass into the path of the on running Lew Hutchinson who didn’t need to break stride and fired a first time effort past the despairing keeper 3-0. The speed of the move is something that most Saturday sides would be proud of. MOM goes to Ian Pegrum who didn’t put a foot wrong all evening!

With the final whistle going full credit has to go to the AFC Awareness Vets Orange as they are much better than their league position shows and will be a stern test for all this season.

Dunstable now turn their attention to Luton Vets who are currently sitting top of the league and stayed to watch our game and are already treating it as their cup final, with many spectators expected to be present for the game Dunstable should expect a very warm welcome.
