Dunstable Town 1-3 Winslow United

Gladwish Trophy

Tuesday 3rd December 2024

Dunstable Town’s run in the Gladwish Trophy game to an end despite taking the lead with just over half an hour remaining on Tuesday night.

Changes were made to the starting line up that played against Crawley Green three days earlier with 16 year old under 18’s keeper Mikey Dobbs making his debut.

Liam Hayden returned from suspension and went on to score his first goal for the club.

A cagey opening ten minutes saw little in the way of goalmouth action until the 11th minute when a good ball in by Jack James was met by Hayden but he couldn’t quite find Shea Greene in the six yard box.

Luka Lodder then shot from just outside the area but it was easily gathered by Alfie Mumford.

In the 21st minute Anthony Adeoti shot wide for the visitors followed by another effort by Charlie Rowe that was deflected for a corner.

Just before half time Nathan Amaning hit a fine strike for Winslow, which drifted just wide.

Dobbs had to be on his toes soon after the break saving an effort from Jake Stronge and then gathering Simon King’s free kick.

Jamie Ovington saw his shot deflected for a corner at the other end before Hayden opened the scoring with a fine finish into the bottom left hand corner with 59 minutes gone.

Lodder then had a shot go narrowly wide a minute later.

Winslow equalised in the 72nd minute when Ryan Freshwater converted a header from King’s free kick.

Amaning’s low drive was then denied Dobbs with a finger tip save.

With ten minutes left Town failed to clear their lines, which enabled George Boland to play a one-two with Stronge and unleash a fine effort into the roof of the net to take the lead.

In the 89th minute Amaning was given the freedom of the pitch to shoot from distance, which beat Dobbs low down to kill the game off.

Team: Dobbs; James; L Smith; Ovington; Osborne; Greene; Bircham; Hayden; Mead; Lodder; Onu.
