Dunstable Town 0-0 Kempston Rovers
SSML Premier Division
Saturday 14th December 2024
A second consecutive 0-0 draw in the league for Dunstable Town at Creasey Park saw both teams having to settle for a point.
Town were missing the suspended Alfie Osborne due to accumulation of bookings, Joe Hankins was unavailable while Alex Desmond was still sidelined.
New signings Joel Odei-Larbi and Jonah Howgego both came into the squad with the latter starting on the bench. Charlie Smith came in for Desmond.
Rovers created the early chances one of which Charlie Smith did well to save in the 11th minute.
Town grew into the game with a shot from Mead four minutes later which Kacper Kurylowicz gathered followed by a strike from Liam Hayden which went narrowly wide.
An excellent move from the home side on 27 minutes saw Mead agonisingly shoot wide.
There was then little in the way of efforts on goal until six minutes before the break when Hayden’s shot was blocked.
In the 52nd minute Mead, who was always on the front foot, had a shot that took a deflection for a corner followed by similar effort which seemed to be saved low down by Kurylowicz but the referee signalled for a goal kick instead of another corner.
Dunstable had a lot of the ball but just couldn’t find a way to capitalise on their possession with Lewis Smith next to have an effort at goal saved by Kurylowicz.
The match became a bit tense in the last quarter as a few fouls made it difficult for either team to find a rhythm.
Mead did though burst into the box in the 77th minute but couldn’t get his shot away as the Kempston defence cleared the ball to safety.
With ten minutes left Sam Ezenwaka crossed for Luka Lodder but it was just a little too high to get proper contact and his header went over the bar.
Rovers should have taken the lead in the 85th minute when Kian Wilkes dragged his shot wide when it looked destined for the opening goal.
The last few minutes played out with no more efforts on goal but Town will be pleased with a second clean sheet in a row in the league but just need that little bit of confidence again in the final third to get the goals they need.
