Dunstable Town FC were awarded the Non-League paper’s Community Club of the Year award at yesterday’s NLP’s awards ceremony held at AFC Wimbledon’s home in Plough Lane.
The award recognised the Club’s pioneering mental and physical health and well-being programme, Improving the Lives of Others, which began in August 2021 and sees the Club provide eight different community support groups every week for up to 120 people.
Improving the Lives of Others (ILO) has been the cornerstone on which the Club’s restructure as a Community Benefit Society has been built. The Club has established partnerships with many statutory and non-statutory bodies during this period and will be making an announcement shortly on an expansion of ILO into local schools.
The philosophy which underpins the Club’s community programme is common to all Community/Fan Owned Clubs and values beyond all else a club’s determination and commitment to provide a sustainable future for the club for generations of supporters to follow in our footsteps.
Club Chair, Andrew Madaras, Vice Chair, Matt Carrington, and Head of Walking Football Groups, Ian Bateman, represented the Club at yesterday’s awards.
The Club would like to thank its many volunteers who provide support at the weekly groups, but in particular, wishes to express its gratitude to Lee Nutley and Ian Bateman for their tireless commitment to Chums & Crumbs and the Walking Football groups respectively.
